Statement Re: Circulation Of False Claims Via Digital Media

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) is issuing a stern warning regarding the circulation of claims on social media alleging that certain individuals were providing us information related to an ongoing investigation. These statements are completely false, utterly careless, and highly malicious in nature. Not only is it a threat to the integrity of our investigation but it also has the potential to place innocent lives at risk.

We want to make it clear that spreading misinformation can have serious legal consequences. Under Section 13(1) of the Electronic Crimes Act, individuals who engage in unlawful communication — including the dissemination of false information that is menacing to others — can be prosecuted. This offence carries significant penalties, including fines of up to EC $10,000, imprisonment for up to (12) months, or both, and anyone found sharing this kind of information will be held liable.

As the main law enforcement agency in the Federation, we are dedicated to maintaining transparency with our community while also protecting the typically sensitive nature of ongoing investigations. We continually urge the community to be responsible and cautious when sharing information online. Misinformation not only harms individuals but can also undermine overall public trust and safety. Therefore, we urge the public to rely on verified information from official sources only.

If you have credible information regarding any incident or crime, we encourage you to report it directly to us rather than relying on unverified social media claims. Tips can be submitted anonymously through our Crime Stoppers’ hotline, 707, and we assure the community that all information will be handled with the utmost confidentiality.

The RSCNPF is immovably committed to the execution of thorough and fair investigations. We are eternally grateful for the community's continued cooperation as we work to bring those responsible for crimes to justice.
