Traffic Offenders Convicted And Fined In Magistrate’s Court

Basseterre, St. Kitts – June 24, 2025 - On June 23 2025, several cases were heard at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court presided over by her Honor Ms. Yasmine Clarke, and were disposed as follows:

In the matter of Licensing Authority vs Mathew McGuire of New Road, the defendant appeared unrepresented and pleaded not guilty to a charge of reckless driving. Following a full trial, Mr. McGuire was found guilty and was subsequently fined $1,500.00, payable within three (3) months. In default of payment, he is to serve one (1) month of imprisonment. Additionally, the Court ordered the suspension of his driver’s license for a period of one week, effective from June 24 to July 1, 2025. The offence occurred on August 20, 2024.

In a separate matter, Licensing Authority vs Joseph Gichuki of Greenlands, the defendant was also unrepresented and pleaded guilty to four (4) charges arising from an incident that occurred on June 20, 2025. Mr. Gichuki was fined as follows:

1. Driving without a seatbelt – fined $150.00, payable within one (1) week or in default, seven (7) days imprisonment.

2. Making use of indecent language – fined $500.00, payable within one (1) month or in default, one (1) month imprisonment.

3. Driving without insurance – fined $500.00, payable within three (3) months or in default, one (1) month imprisonment.

4. Driving without a valid and unexpired license – fined $500.00, payable within two (2) months or in default, one (1) month imprisonment.

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force continues to urge all motorists to comply with traffic laws and regulations, as breaches will be met with the full force of the law to ensure the safety of all road users.
