On January 17, 2025, several matters were heard and disposed of at the Basseterre Magistrate Court, presided over by His Honor Renold Benjamin. The following is a summary of convictions and proceedings:
1. Licensing Authority vs. Ganraj Persaud (of New Road):
• Convicted and fined $1,400.00 forthwith or serve 6 months imprisonment for driving when the proportion of alcohol in the blood exceeded the prescribed limit.
• Convicted and fined $2,000.00 forthwith or serve 4 months imprisonment for driving under the influence of alcohol.
• Convicted and fined $1,000.00 payable within 2 months or serve 1 month imprisonment for driving without due care and attention.
• Convicted and fined $1,000.00 payable within 2 months or serve 2 months imprisonment for driving without insurance, committed on July 23, 2023.
• Disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s license for 6 months.
• Thirteen (13) matters were adjourned to various dates.
• Three (3) matters were withdrawn at court.
