Traffic Convictions

Basseterre,St. Kitts. February 8, 2024. The following persons appeared before the Basseterre Magistrate Court this week, presided over by Her Honor Ms Yasmin Clarke and Mrs Sherry-Ann Charles-Liburd, and were convicted and fined as follows for various traffic violations:

February 3, 2025

 1. Roy Nisbett of St. Peters – Convicted and fined $1,000, payable within two months, or in default, two months’ imprisonment (Offence committed on September 13, 2024. 

 2. Shakimo Liburd of West Bourne Street – Convicted and fined $1,500, payable within two months, or in default, two months’ imprisonment (Offence committed on March 11, 2022).

 3. Jermain Hanley of Half Way Tree – Convicted and fined $800, payable within two months, or in default, one month’s imprisonment (Offence committed on May 24, 2024).

Additionally, during the proceedings:
 • 23 ticket cases were withdrawn after payment of fines. 
 • 10 bench warrants were issued. 
 • 23 matters were adjourned for service of summons.

February 6, 2025

 1. Kimron Bergan of Lodge Project:
 • Convicted and fined $1,000, payable in six months, or in default, 14 days’ imprisonment for driving without a valid and unexpired licence. 

 • Convicted and fined $1,000, payable in six months, or in default, 14 days’ imprisonment (Driving without insurance).

 • Convicted and fined $1,500, payable in six months, or in default, 14 days’ imprisonment (Driving without due care and attention).

 • Convicted and cautioned (Taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent).

 • Convicted and fined $250, payable by February 28, 2025, or in default, 10 days’ imprisonment (Failing to stop at an accident committed on August 27, 2023).

 2. Lescelia Francis of Lamberts – Convicted and fined $750, payable in two months, or in default, 14 days’ imprisonment (Driving without due care and attention committed on June 22, 2022).

 3. Earl Lecointe of Greenlands:
 • Convicted and fined $750, payable in one month, or in default, 14 days’ imprisonment (Driving without a valid and unexpired licence).

 • Convicted and fined $1,000, payable in two months, or in default, 14 days’ imprisonment (Driving without due care and attention).

 • Convicted and cautioned (Driving without insurance, offence committed on May 20, 2024).

 4. U-Carl Thompson of Buckleys – Convicted and fined $1,000, payable in one month, or in default, 14 days’ imprisonment (Driving without due care and attention committed on May 10, 2024). 

 5. Ian Daniel of Conaree – Convicted and fined $1,000, payable in one month, or in default, 14 days’ imprisonment (Driving without due care and attention committed on March 11, 2024). 

 6. Ashley Henry of New Road – Convicted and fined $1,500, payable in two months, or in default, 14 days’ imprisonment (Driving without due care and attention committed on August 12, 2024)

 7. Brandon Powell of Buckleys – Convicted and cautioned (Driving without due care and attention committed on July 5, 2024).

 8. Shemyra Baptiste of Conaree – Convicted and fined $1,500, payable in two months, or in default, 14 days’ imprisonment (Driving without due care and attention committed on August 3, 2024). 

Additionally, the following matters were addressed during the session:
 • 13 ticket cases were withdrawn due to payment.
 • 9 accident cases were withdrawn in court.
 • 12 ticket cases were adjourned to March 27, 2025. 
 • 18 accident cases were adjourned to various dates.
 • One bench warrant was issued for Raphael Rodney of Frigate Bay.

The Traffic Department continues to enforce road safety laws and urges all motorists to adhere to traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
