Traffic Court Convictions

Basseterre, St. Kitts (March 2, 2025) – Officers of the Traffic Department, led by Inspector Gordon, attended the Basseterre Magistrate Court on multiple occasions last week, where several traffic-related matters were adjudicated. Presiding over the proceedings were Her Honor Sherry-Ann Liburd Charles and Her Honor Yasmine Clarke, who handed down the following convictions and sentences:

Cases Heard on 24th February 2025 Presiding Magistrate: Her Honor Yasmine Clarke. 

 1. Philmore Powell of Cayon was convicted and fined $1,000 to be paid within three (3) months, or in default, serve three (3) months’ imprisonment for the offence of driving without due care and attention, committed on 13th November 2024.

 2. Tawanna Pemberton of Bird Rock was convicted and fined $1,000 to be paid within three (3) months, or in default, serve three (3) months’ imprisonment for the offence of driving without due care and attention, committed on 14th September 2024.

 3. Lennox Morton of Ottleys Extension was convicted and fined $1,000 to be paid within three (3) months, or in default, serve three (3) months’ imprisonment for the offence of driving without due care and attention, committed on 22nd February 2024.

 4. Vernon Clive Simon of Old Road was convicted and fined $1,000 to be paid within three (3) months, or in default, serve three (3) months’ imprisonment for the offence of driving without due care and attention, committed on 30th January 2024.

 5. Danique Dasent of Old Road was convicted and fined $1,000 to be paid within three (3) months, or in default, serve three (3) months’ imprisonment for the offence of driving without due care and attention, committed on 31st May 2024.

In addition to these convictions, nine (9) ticket matters were withdrawn after confirmation of payment.  A further nine (9) ticket matters were adjourned until 24th March 2025. 

Cases Heard on 27th February 2025 Presiding Magistrate: Her Honor Sherry-Ann Liburd Charles. 

 1. Pryonni Jacobs of Molineux was convicted and fined $750 to be paid within one (1) month, or in default, serve 14 days’ imprisonment for the offence of driving without due care and attention, committed on 17th May 2024.

 2. Ilva Wallace of Pond Extension was convicted and fined $1,000 to be paid within one (1) month, or in default, serve 14 days’ imprisonment for the offence of driving without due care and attention, committed on 26th June 2024.

 3. Aaron Benjamin of Dieppe Bay was convicted and fined $2,000, to be paid by 31st March 2025, for the offence of driving without due care and attention, committed on 26th June 2023.

Additionally, the court addressed:
 • Thirteen (13) matters withdrawn due to payment of the fines. 
 • Thirty-three (33) ticket matters adjourned to 1st May 2025.
 • One (1) Bench Warrant issued for Aldrin Hodge of Lime Kiln.
 • Ten (10) accident matters adjourned to various dates.

The Traffic Department urges all motorists to drive responsibly and adhere to the nation’s traffic laws to avoid legal repercussions and ensure road safety for all.
