Inspector Derell Boon joined the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force on October 15, 2009, following a career as a secondary school teacher. With over 15 years of distinguished service, he has contributed significantly to law enforcement, serving in various roles across multiple departments on both St. Kitts and Nevis. His assignments have included the Basseterre Police Station, Criminal Investigations Department, Old Road Police Station, Sandy Point Police Station, Traffic Department, Delta Squad, Task Force Nevis, Gingerland Police Station, Police K9-Unit, Charlestown Police Station, the Police Training School as an instructor, the Special Services Unit, the National Prosecution Services at the DPP’s Office, the Anti-Gang Unit, and the Joint Security Operations Tactical Team.

Inspector Boon’s career reflects his exceptional expertise in advanced tactical operations, training, and law enforcement management. With a strong foundation in teaching and training, he has honed a comprehensive understanding of security standards, legal frameworks, and operational procedures. His commitment to professional development is evident through the extensive training he has undertaken both regionally and internationally. These include courses in crime scene investigation, suspect interview techniques, homicide investigations, police K-9 training certified by the United States Police K-9 Association and the Southern Coast K-9 Training Facility in Florida, DEA tactical training in firearms usage and self-defense, the ATF Caribbean Firearms Trafficking Workshop, the ESMAHAN Consulting Outdoor Leadership Program in San Salvador, and the International Law Enforcement Academy Leadership Development Program. He is also certified as an instructor through programs like REDTRAC Instructor Training, Safariland’s Monadnock Expandable Baton and OC Aerosol Pepper Spray courses, and the Caribbean Anti-Crime Program’s Trial Advocacy Train-the-Trainer initiative.

Throughout his career, Inspector Boon has been recognized with numerous commendations for his dedication and outstanding performance. These include certificates for hard work, commitment, and contribution to the force, such as being named the Most Outstanding Constable at the Gingerland Police Station in 2012, the Most Outstanding Constable in the Task Force Unit in 2014, and the Most Outstanding Supervisor at the Service Improvement Directorate in 2021. He has also received extraordinary performance awards from the Service Improvement Directorate in 2018 and 2019, underscoring his consistent excellence and professionalism.

Inspector Boon has been deployed on multiple occasions with the Regional Security System (RSS) to assist member states in times of crisis, serving in critical capacities such as Contingent Commander and Logistician for all troops in theater. Notably, he was recently deployed to St. Lucia during their upsurge in crime, where his leadership and logistical coordination played a vital role in supporting security operations.

In his current role as Tactical Commander 2 IC, Inspector Boon oversees critical tactical units, including the Special Services Unit, Community and Safety Response Team, Joint Security Operations Tactical Team, and the Drug Squad Unit. His responsibilities also extend to functioning as an Internal Prosecutor for Disciplinary Tribunals, a Force Impact Weapons Instructor, a Range and Firearms Instructor, and a Self-Defense Instructor. Furthermore, he is a Regional Security System (RSS) Instructor and served as the Chief Instructor for the RSS Junior Leaders Level 3 CVQ Course 1/2024.

Inspector Boon’s extensive experience, advanced training, and unwavering dedication to duty have made him a well-rounded and highly respected leader in law enforcement. His contributions continue to strengthen the security framework and operational effectiveness of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
